Preparing For Surgery

At Hartsville Surgical Center, we strive to make your surgery a smooth process and as worry free as possible. We will sometimes need to obtain certain labs, X-Rays, and certain other diagnostic studies in preparation of your surgery. This process will take place prior to your actual surgery. Often times we are required to obtain a pre-authorization from your insurance company, so that when you arrive for your procedure, it will be a smooth process with no delays for you and your family.

You will not be allowed to eat or drink anything by mouth at least 8 hours prior to the scheduled surgery time, so usually we will tell patients to not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. In some cases a prep may be needed (for colonoscopy or bowel resection, for example), but this will be explained and written out for you when we evaluate you in the office before the planned procedure.

We will bring you in to the outpatient area at least 1 to 2 hours prior to your scheduled time as well in case any last minute labs or issues need to be addressed. You should expect your surgeon to talk with you briefly prior to your procedure, and to also talk with your family immediately following your surgery as well. In most cases, if your do not require admission following your surgery, we will then give you instructions on care of any incisions, your follow-up appointment plans, and also prescriptions that you may need.

Should you not understand anything, feel free to call our office during our hours of operation for any additional information.
